- What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?
I have been a Conversation Partner at the UCR extension center for the past year. As a conversation partner my role is to facilitate conversations with foreign students to help them better grasp the communication aspect of the English language. I also assist in planning activities and games that would guide students toward a concrete understanding of grammar usage. In addition, I effectively answer students’ questions and concerns in order to promote confidence in a class room setting. I have also privately tutored a few students in high school and a few classmates at UCR to help them obtain the letter grade they desired in math, science, and social science courses.
- Specialties – What subjects are you best at?
I am best at mathematics (basic elementary math, algebra 1, algebra 2, pre-calculus, and statistics). I am proficient in high school Chemistry, Psychology and Biology. I am fluent in English, Vietnamese and also capable of tutoring high school Spanish 1.
- What days and times are you available to tutor?
Mondays & Wednesdays: After 5pm
Tuesdays & Saturdays: All day
Fridays: After 4pm
Unavailable on Thursdays and Sundays

- Where did you attend school? What degrees do you have?
I am currently a third year undergraduate student at University of California, Riverside. Bachelor of Arts, Psychology Degree anticipated in June 2015
- What cities are you okay with tutoring in (i.e. how far can you drive to tutor)?
I prefer tutoring students in Riverside but I am also comfortable with driving to local cities within 15 miles radius.
- What are your hobbies when you are not working?
When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my youth group Thieu Nhi Fatima (TNF) and my Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) club at school. As a youth group leader at TNF I help plan and organize group activities that are beneficial in facilitating personal interactions among the kids. At VSA I am the community service coordinator for the next school year and I am so excited to discover more opportunities to help better our community and environment! Aside from those two, my other hobbies include exploring nature, and learning new things since I have a strong passion for being a life-long learner.
- What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?
My greatest accomplishment would be helping a foreign student at the UCR extension center feel completely comfortable with the English language which in turn increased her academic performance by 1-2 letter grades for each course.
- What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?
What I enjoy about tutoring/teaching is being able to boost my students’ confidence in academics. One thing I noticed through my experience with teaching is that in most cases students are afraid of trying because they are afraid to be “wrong.” I believe that through persistence and practice I can help students overcome this fear which will regain their confidence in the classroom setting. My ultimate favorite part about teaching would always be the moment when the student finally gets the problem in which he/she was having the most difficulty with. I enjoy seeing the cheerful smile on their faces as if they could “conquer the world” when this moment occurs and that alone is the most rewarding part about teaching.
