The Tutoring Solution’s Tutor: Christina Nguyen.

  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

I have volunteered at an after school program called Homework Club for five years. There, I tutor kids one-on-one or in small groups in various subjects by helping them do their homework, preparing them for their upcoming tests, and answering any school related questions they may have. In addition, I have taught a Vietnamese class for four years, teaching kids from age 6 to 18.  Therefore, I am comfortable in a classroom setting and one-on-one

  • What subjects are you best at?

I always excel in mathematics (up to algebra 1 and geometry).  Although it’s not everyone’s favorite subject, mathematics is my favorite. I see everything as a puzzle, but using numbers, fractions, and decimals. It’s one of those subjects where if you make a mistake, it’s okay! Just try again, and if  it’s too hard, try a different method.  Last but not least, another reason why mathematics is my favorite subject is simply because math is fun!

  • What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?

Tutor is no longer available.

Tutor’s schedule is subject to change.

  • Where did you attend school? What degrees do you have?

I am currently a third year undergraduate student at the University of California, Riverside working towards a bachelor’s degree in Sociology Administrative Studies.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far can you drive to tutor)?

I can tutor within 20 miles from Riverside such as Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Ontario, Chino Hills, etc.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

  • What are your future career goals?

One of my future career goals would have to be in marketing or anything relating to my major.  In whatever path I choose, I would definitely want to work with people, because, well, I am a people person.

  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?

I love going to the beach!  If i am not busy studying or going to school, you can (almost) always find me at the beach either swimming, biking, or practicing my photography skills.  In my spare time, I like to look up recipes online to make a gourmet meal for myself. What can I say? I love food!

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

One of my biggest accomplishments would have to be having one of my students receive awards such as “honorable student” or “most improved” or even “student of the year”.  The reasons why I love seeing them receive these awards is because they get to realize that they are as proud of themselves as I am proud of them.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

The reason why I enjoy tutoring/teaching is because not only am i able to mentor students, I am also able to make a friend and share experiences with them. I see potential in each and every one of my students and I want to help them achieve their best, both academically and personally.  My favorite part of teaching would have to be that teaching is a learning cycle – not only are my students learning from me, I am also learning from them!
