The idea behind our Blog Based Learning Program is that learning doesn’t have to be about school curriculum. We want to inspire students to explore the things that interest them with the goal that they will attain a passion for learning. We also feel that if students are actively exploring their interests they will find the topics and fields they are passionate about and be better prepared for the rest of their life.
Why a Blog?
A blog is an amazing way to share information and connect with others who have similar interests. It is also a great way to store research, thoughts and ideas because it is all indexed, very searchable, and as long as there is an internet connection all the posts are accessible. (As with anything that goes on the web it is important to be careful about the information you post. Blogs are able to be restricted so that only certain people have access to the content and we always discuss privacy options with parents before setting up a blog.)
We have begun our blog-based learning program with our first student, Stephenie Perera. Stephenie has already begun the Blog-Based Learning Program – she has started blogging on her own site – StephenietheGreat. Follow along with Stephenie and I, as we both keep you updated on our progress.
