We selected Mackenna Wells as our November 2014 Student of the Month. Mackenna receives her tutoring in Eastvale. She is a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. We have been working with Mackenna, since she started her sophomore year, for more than 2 years now; we have helped her with subjects ranging from Geometry, to Chemistry, Algebra 2, and more. This school year, Mackenna has been working with our tutor Judy to improve her understanding of Statistics.

Throughout all the years that we have worked with Mackenna, she has proven to be a dream student to work with. Her current tutor, Judy, has really enjoyed being Mackenna’s tutor. When asked how she would describe Mackenna, Judy responded, “She is a highly motivated and intelligent individual. She is a hard worker that puts 100% effort in everything she does. She is also a very kind-hearted young woman who is proactive in her community. She has guided the establishment of the new Best Buddy chapter at her school which is a club that assists students with special needs and disabilities”. It is clear that Mackenna not only wishes to succeed academically and achieve her own personal goals, but she also looks beyond her own needs and helps other individuals, through her club, to achieve their own goals. We greatly admire young individuals who are selfless, like Mackenna has proven to be, and who work towards making the world a better place, not only for themselves, but also for others.

Judy has seen Mackenna’s understanding of statistics blossom during the time that they have worked together. Judy said, “Before we started tutoring for statistics, Mackenna stated that math had never been her strongest subject nor was it ever her favorite. In terms of grades in tests and quizzes that she has acquired thus far, Mackenna has demonstrated clear improvements, obtaining mostly A’s”. More importantly, Mackenna’s confidence in her academic abilities has also improved thanks to the hard work she and Judy have put in and their shared love of learning. Judy added, “What I enjoy the most about working with Mackenna is that she is passionate about learning and academics, which makes me feel ecstatic as her tutor”. Judy looks forward to continue working with Mackenna and seeing her achieve all the goals she sets for herself. Mackenna is truly a remarkable young woman who has a lot to offer. We are fortunate and thankful that we get to work with her and her family.

Congratulations Mackenna! Keep up the fantastic work!

The Tutoring Solution’s October 2014 Student of the Month - Nicholas Celella

The Tutoring Solution’s October 2014 Student of the Month – Nicholas Celella

We selected Nicholas Celella as our October Student of the Month. Nicholas receives his tutoring in Eastvale. Nicholas started the 1st grade at Clara Barton Elementary this school year and he has been receiving tutoring for reading and writing with our tutor Gale Frankel since August 2014. Nicholas is an intelligent and highly motivated student; he is truly a pleasure to work with.

Gale has been working with Nicholas for the past three months; she has been helping him with his reading and writing. Thus far, she has seen him make great strides. A large part of why Nicholas has done so well with tutoring is his love of learning. Gale describes Nicholas as a hard working student. She says, “He pays close attention to what is being worked on and he always does his best”. She says that what she loves the most about working with Nicholas is “his enthusiasm for wanting to learn”. Like many of our past students of the month, Nicholas too sees the value of becoming a more knowledgeable individual.

Due to his hard work and desire to keep improving, not only have Nicholas’ grades improved in reading and writing, but, most importantly, his understanding of the subject matter has improved greatly as well. Gale says, “Nicholas is improving in pronouncing words and also being able to blend words”. She went on to say, “Nicholas is turning into a very good reader. It gives me great joy to see how much progress he has made”. Nicholas’ mom, Cathy Celella, added, “Nicholas is doing so well with Gale, she is amazing with him. She makes learning fun for him. He really enjoys his time with her.” Gale and Nicholas seem to be a great match; they both love education and they see everyday as an opportunity to keep growing academically.

Thanks to his enthusiasm for learning, his family’s involvement in his education, and Gale’s guidance, Nicholas is bound to continue making huge strides. We are very excited to see all the wonderful achievements that Nicholas is bound to make this academic year. We are sure that if he continues on the same path, he will achieve all his goals in no time. Thank you Cathy for using our tutoring services and letting us get to meet your very bright boy. The Tutoring Solution’s September 2014 Student of the Month - Ava Cornell

The Tutoring Solution’s September 2014 Student of the Month – Ava Cornell

We selected Ava Cornell as our September Student of the Month. Ava receives her tutoring in Chino Hills. She started the 4th grade at Gerald F. Litel Elementary this school year and she has been receiving tutoring for math and language arts with our tutor Gale Frankel since early June 2014. Ava is a very bright young lady and, with just a bit of assistance, she has made great strides.

Right from the start Gale and Ava hit it off due to their shared love of learning. When asked what attributes make Ava such a great student to work with, Gale said, “Ava is a hard worker and eager to learn.” Additionally, she added that she enjoys “Ava’s enthusiasm for learning. She’s a delight to work with.” Clearly, not only is Ava intelligent, motivated, and hard working, but she also loves and values the many benefits that come from learning. Because of all these reasons, we decided that Ava would be the perfect choice as our September Student of the Month.

Ava and Gale’s hard work have paid off. With Gale’s help and Ava’s enthusiasm for learning, Gale says, “Ava has a much better understanding of the material being learned.” Gale has seen Ava make great strides in the short time that hey have worked together, which has been extremely rewarding for Gale and Ava. What is more, Ava’s self confidence has really blossomed, which has provided Ava with an essential tool in order to succeed academically.

Gale has really enjoyed her time with Ava thus far, and she says that the best part of working with her is watching Ava’s self confidence grow. We know that if they keep working towards achieving Ava’s academic goals, Ava will continue to blossom and live up to her full potential.

We are excited to see how Ava continues to progress and we hope to be a part of that journey for years to come. Thank you to Andrea for allowing us the opportunity to work with her amazing daughter. Congratulations Ava!

We selected Khari Angel as our August Student of the Month. Khari receives his tutoring in Chino Hills. He is starting his sophomore year at Ayala High School this week. Khari recently began working with our tutor Tra-Mi in order to improve his overall grade in Geometry. He has proven to be a pleasure to work with.

Tra-Mi has really enjoyed working with Khari because of his optimistic personality and his hard work and determination. Tra-Mi said of Khari, “Khari is a very dedicated student who always works hard. He’s always excited and motivated to tackle the day’s lessons and his upbeat personality makes tutoring sessions enjoyable.” Although Khari has all the ingredients to succeed, the most important one that he possesses is his great respect for education and his desire to continually learn and improve. Tra-Mi described his optimistic and happy demeanor as being contagious and making tutoring fun for both of them.

Throughout the short time that they worked together, Khari made great strides. Tra-Mi said, “Khari performed very well on his tests and on his final exam, he earned an A.” She added, “Khari’s understanding of the course materials has greatly increased. He sees the value of creating detailed notes while learning the course materials versus trying to create notes right before a test. He also understands the importance of doing practice problems now. It allowed him to find out what sections of the course materials he needed to go back to and review and it helped him practice the concepts and make them concrete.” Thanks to Tra-Mi’s teaching style and Khari’s willingness to learn, Khari was able to accomplish his academic goals and to learn how to better prepare for future tests (in all subjects). Additionally, Khari also has the support of his mother, Vera, who encourages him to succeed every step of the way.

We are delighted to be able to continue working with Khari (and his mother Vera) and helping him succeed in Algebra II this academic year. We love being able to work with families who are excited about learning and who understand the value of education. We know that regardless of what path Khari chooses to take in life, as long as he maintains the same view about education, he will be successful. Congratulations Khari!

The Tutoring Solution’s July 2014 Student of the Month - James Heinssen

The Tutoring Solution’s July 2014 Student of the Month – James Heinssen

For the month of July our Student of the Month is James Heinssen. James receives his tutoring in Corona. James graduated from Norco High School in the summer of 2014 and he will be starting Norco College in the fall. James has been working with us since September 2012. James has received tutoring in English, Basic Algebra, Statistics, and British Literature, among other subjects. Most recently, James has been working with Stephany to help him with his Math College Placement Test.

Stephany describes James as “a very intelligent and dedicated young man.” She goes on to say, “He always attempts his very best and his grades demonstrate the dedication and effort he puts into his studying.” Although he has a tendency of challenging his tutors and questioning whether or not they are using the most effective method to solve the math problems, his desire to learn and find the best method possible, makes teaching James more enjoyable, because it forces his tutors to analyze the different methods and to learn in the process.

While working with James, Stephany has seen him improve greatly. Many of his tests and quizzes were returned with higher marks than what he was receiving before he started tutoring. Stephany said, “After a few sessions I did notice James’s understanding of the course materials increase. After a few examples, he successfully completed worksheets and homework problems with little help. He was able to remember steps without me having to give him hints”.

His mother, Teri, also saw improvements in James after receiving tutoring from us. She said, “The Tutoring Solution has been the best tutoring my son has received. The tutors are kind, intelligent in their field and very patient. My son has soared because of them. Each one has been fabulous. James is also very smart, but it was the tutoring that put him over the top. It also gave him confidence to do his best. And it showed. He’s an “A”, “B” student and proud of his accomplishments”.

We have been so happy to be able to work with James and Teri these past few years. Both James and Teri have been a pleasure to work with. It is always nice to meet kind people who value education as much as we do. We are excited to have the opportunity to continue working with James into his college years. Congratulations James!

The Tutoring Solution’s June 2014 Student of the Month – Warren Huang

For the month of June our Student of the Month is Warren Huang. Warren is a 6th grade student who receives his tutoring in Chino Hills. He has been working with his tutor Tra-Mi, since early April 2014. Tra-Mi has been helping him improve his writing skills. While working together for the past 4 months, Tra-Mi has seen vast improvements in Warren’s ability to organize his thoughts in a more concise and mature manner.

Tra-Mi really enjoys working with Warren because of his unique personality. When asked what it is like to work with Warren, Tra-Mi said, “I would describe Warren as a very imaginative and enthusiastic student. He has lots of personality and makes sure to show it in his work.” Warren manages to turn an activity, which other students might perceive as being dull, into an opportunity to be creative and to have his unique and fun personality show through his writing.

Not only does Warren learn in the process, but he also makes it enjoyable for himself and his tutor. Tra-Mi added, “Warren doesn’t do the bare minimum when it comes to completing his assignments, he makes sure that when the readers read his essay, they are engaged. When we work on narratives, his stories are always very creative and fun to read. Even when he’s given an assignment where he has to write about factual events, he always makes sure that he adds in some weird and interesting facts so that his essay won’t be “boring”.” Clearly Warren understands the importance of writing and keeping readers engaged.

Tra-Mi has noted vast improvements in Warren’s writing abilities. When asked how Warren has improved, Tra-Mi said, “Warren’s thoughts are more organized, he doesn’t start his sentences with conjunctions, and it’s easier to follow his train of thought in his writing now. He makes outlines before he starts writing and he edits and rewrites when it is necessary.” After working together, Warren has learned how important outlines are in order to help him organize his thoughts and ideas. Thanks to his enthusiasm and Tra-Mi’s guidance, Warren is on his way to becoming an excellent writer.

Warren and his family have been a pleasure to work with. He is a really special student who manages to brighten his tutor’s day with his unique and creative take on pretty much any topic. We look forward to continue working with Warren and seeing him continue to develop his writing skills. Congratulations Warren!

The Tutoring Solution's May 2014 Student of the Month - Mena Mekhaeel

The Tutoring Solution’s May 2014 Student of the Month – Mena Mekhaeel

Our May Student of the Month is Mena Mekhaeel. Mena receives his tutoring in Mira Loma. He is a student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and he has been receiving tutoring with our company since the beginning of February. Mena has been working with his tutor, Laura, to improve his understanding of Pre-Calculus. Throughout their time together, Mena has improved his understanding and confidence in his ability to complete Pre-Calculus assignments. The main reasons for his success are his desire to learn and because he was paired with a tutor with a strong knowledge of the Pre-Calculus and an shared love of learning.

From the moment that Laura first began working with Mena, she said that he was clearly an intelligent young man who posed very thought provoking questions in search of a deeper understanding. Laura was very impressed by his level of intelligence and his enthusiasm for education. Laura said, “Mena is a dedicated student and athlete. He is often tired after swim practice, but he manages to find energy to study and take charge of his learning.”

What is more, Mena is a very special young man, who goes above and beyond to achieve his goals. When asked what it has been like to work with Mena, Laura said, “I really enjoy Mena’s willingness to do extra unassigned work to make sure he understands Pre-Calculus. This gives me the opportunity to watch and make sure he understands the techniques. Mena is also fun to converse with. He is interested in many topics and is funny. I have especially enjoyed talking with Mena about college.” It is clear that both Laura and Mena developed a great relationship and were able to bond over their mutual love of learning.

We have greatly enjoyed working with Mena and his family. They are all extremely kind and they clearly share our love of learning. We look forward to continue working with Mena and seeing him continue to prosper in school and achieve all his academic goals. We know great things await this impressive young man. Congratulations Mena!

Our Student of the Month for April 2014 is Jessica Congleton. Jessica receives her tutoring in Chino Hills, where she resides. She attends Ontario Christian High School and she has been receiving tutoring with us since October 2013, in order to improve her understanding of Chemistry and Algebra 2. Jessica has been working with two of our talented tutors, Joseph and Stephen.

There are several reasons why we selected Jessica as our April Student of the Month. We not only selected her because of how hard working and motivated she is, but also because of her easy going personality and her great respect for learning. Both Joseph and Stephen really enjoy working with Jessica and they have nothing but nice things to say about her. Although Jessica is involved in sports, as well as in other after school activities, and has a very busy schedule, she always shows up to her tutoring sessions happy and eager to learn. She does not allow her tiredness to take over and instead she makes the most of her tutoring sessions. She demonstrates all the qualities that we look for in students and is clearly on her way to achieving all her academic goals.

When asked to describe what it is like to work with Jessica, Joseph said, “She is very sociable and attentive towards all the lessons given. When something is not clear, she will immediately notify me so that I can explain a concept differently for her to better grasp the material.” Stephen, added, “Jessica is a hardworking student, eager to learn and understand the material covered in class. Rather than become agitated at a lack of understanding, she digs her feet into the ground and attempts to tackle the problems presented head on.” Clearly, Jessica has a great understanding of the value of education and she takes advantage of her tutoring sessions to further gain a better understanding of the material she is learning in school.

We have really enjoyed working with Jessica, as well as her sister and cousin. All three girls are exceptionally bright and hard working. We hope to continue working with them and seeing them continue to flourish academically and eventually achieve their goals. Congratulations Jessica! Thank you for letting us take part in your academic growth.

For the month of March, we selected Ethan D. as our Student of the Month. Ethan is a 6th grade student that receives his tutoring in Chino Hills. He has been working with our tutor, David, since early February 2014. David has been helping him improve his understanding of math.

The main reason why we selected Ethan as our Student of the Month is because he epitomizes what we believe to be an ideal student. What makes Ethan so great to work with is how willing he is to take constructive criticism in order to gain a better understanding and to grow. David says of Ethan, “Ethan is a very hard working individual and it shows during our tutoring sessions. He is aware of his weaknesses and is willing to work on them. Ethan takes advice well, and applies it to his work. In total, Ethan is a great student and I believe he will continue to improve in his work.”

Additionally, Ethan does not simply receive the information presented to him without a true understanding of what it means; he is also able come up with vital and critical questions which show his desire to gain an even deeper understanding of the material. David added, “He also challenges my input to have a higher understanding.” In the process of learning, Ethan is also teaching his tutor, by posing such thoughtful questions, which is always an added bonus when working with students.

Due to his ability to implement David’s instruction, Ethan is now able to complete his math assignments in 10 minutes instead of 30. Essentially, he has gained a better understanding of the problems presented to him as well as more effective techniques to tackle those math problems. With David’s help, Ethan has learned how to apply what he is learning in school, into real life situations, making the information presented to him gain a whole new level of importance.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with such a bright student who is eager to learn. We hope to continue working with him and seeing him achieve his goals.
