  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

My tutoring experience started with teaching my little sister since I was 8 years old. My dad left our family and my mother was always working so I was the only one there to help my little sister will all her schoolwork. Then when I got to high school I was involved with AVID. I was also an AVID student and being one allowed me to tutor my classmates and students in lower grades than me. I mostly taught math.

Then when I came to college I had few students that I tutored – two in college and one in high school. I have being tutoring them for almost 2 years now.

  • What subjects are you best at?

The subject that I am most comfortable tutoring is Math (from elementary to high school). I can tutor Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, and college Algebra. I can also tutor Chemistry (at the regular high school level).

  • What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?

Monday: Free till 4:00 pm and after 8:00 pm

Tuesday : Free till 2:00 pm and after 5:30 pm

Wednesday: Free between 12:00 – 4:00 pm

Thursday: Free all day till 2:00 pm and after 5:30 pm

I can tutor in Chino, Chino Hills, Corona, Walnut, Rancho Cucamonga, Pomona, Upland, Diamond Bar, Claremont, Montclair, and Ontario.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

Yes I have Skype and google hangouts.

My hobbies include shopping, exercising, going on hikes and spending time with friends and family.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

My first experience in tutoring involved helping my younger sister in math  and chemistry. After working with her, math and chemistry are now her favorite subjects and she’s planing to study biotech. I also helped a college student that was struggling with Algebra I raise his grade from an F to a B-.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

I really enjoy seeing the students feel  so proud of their own abilities. The accomplished they just made seeing it right though my eye is just the best feeling ever.

  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

I tutored for two years in high school at a local middle school, for the AVID program. I would tutor in areas ranging from history to math at different academic levels. I also worked with more than one student at a time, often tutoring groups of five at a time.

  • What subjects are you best at?

I am best at Math (up to Calculus), Biology, and Chemistry. I can also tutor English and History.

  • What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?

I am available Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am available on Mondays and Fridays after 3:30 pm. I am also available on Sundays.

Tutor’s schedule is subject to change.

  • What school are you currently attending? What degrees are you working towards?

I am currently attending Cal Poly Pomona for my bachelors in the Biological Sciences. Specifically, biology with an emphasis on zoology.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far can you drive to tutor)?

I can tutor in the city of Chino, Chino Hills, Pomona, Diamond Bar, Claremont, La Verne, and Covina.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

I am open to tutoring students via skype, however, I feel like tutoring face-to-face would be much more effective.

  • What are your future career goals?

I strive to work in the field of zoology. So after obtaining my bachelors I plan on applying to either veterinary school or to pursue my master’s degree in Biology. From there I hope to intern at a local zoo under a veterinarian and possibly go into working with conservation.

  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?

Some of my hobbies include playing soccer, reading, and socializing in general.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

I was able to help a shy student communicate with her peers in solving a problem. I was also able to help a student understand a major subject they were having trouble with and then seeing their improvement on their homework.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

When it comes to tutoring I enjoy seeing a student’s face brighten when they begin to understand a subject. It is the best feeling to see them work on their own and have confidence after aiding them for just a few hours.

I earned my High School Diploma from Ruben S. Ayala High School, and am currently working to earn my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at the University of California, Riverside.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far are you willing to drive to tutor)?

I am willing to tutor in Chino Hills, Chino, Ontario, Riverside, Moreno Valley, Corona and Eastvale.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

I am willing to tutor through Skype or any other online platform.

  • What are your future career goals?

After college I am planning on attending Optometry school. I would also love the opportunity to practice abroad in India.

  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?

I really enjoy the outdoors as well as reading. The outdoors because it allows myself to clear my head, and reading because it fills my head up with new information and different perspectives.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

During my freshman year, I helped one of my close friends get a B+ in Biology while she had absolutely no interest in the subject. Her major was liberal studies but it was required that she take Biology. After she received her first midterm score she realized she needed help and reached out to me. We studied for hours in the library, using all the resources available to us. Very soon after that her grade climbed back up and she ended up doing better than average.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

I really enjoy tutoring because it offers a direct path to influence a child’s education. For example, in high school I took Calculus and didn’t particularly care for it, but after I graduated I was required to take it in college. I ended up falling in love with the course solely because my professor in college had this enthusiasm that my teacher in high school didn’t have. He motivated me to learn this subject and be my very best. I would love the opportunity to help students reach their full potential and share my enthusiasm for certain subjects.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far can you drive to tutor)?

I am available to tutor in Pomona, Chino, Chino Hills, Upland, La Verne, Walnut, Claremont, and Ontario. Any cities 10-15 miles from Cal Poly Pomona.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

Unfortunately, I can’t.

  • What are your future career goals?

My plan is to gain work experience in my field of study, after graduation, before going back to school for my Master’s. Once I complete those two goals, I would want to work for the industry in other underdeveloped countries in Aeronautics.

I enjoy exercising by swimming, jogging, and playing soccer. When it comes to an indoor activity, I like to do puzzles such as Sudoku or a 300-1000 piece puzzles, and I also enjoy playing Dota 2 with my brothers or playing the piano.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

My first student/client was a fourth grader who had trouble with 4th grade math. After two sessions, I noticed he had trouble reading numbers and working out basic addition in his head. I worked with him by being very repetitive and patient in working out the problems. During the time I was tutoring him, his mother informed me that the school had privately tested him to see if he had a learning disability, so in the process, they had him placed in 3rd grade level math. Even though he was given 3rd grade math problems, he still had trouble interpreting the problems correctly but he did not notice that. It was a strange issue but in the end, I taught him how to double check his work because it was the only way he can notice his mistakes without someone else pointing it out for him. As his tutor, I gave him confidence, patience, and skills that he benefited from using. Even though he had difficulties that were not clear, he ended up improving by at least 10%. Therefore, it shows that anyone is bound to improve if they keep trying despite the challenges.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

I enjoy making a difference in a student’s life. As a tutor, we are there to supply skills and goals for the student to achieve. It is very rewarding to see a student achieve a goal that was difficult to begin with.
