- What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?
I spent a considerable amount of time honing my teaching skills at Goal Oriented Academics and Learning Sciences (GOALS) in Palo Alto during the 2014-2015 school year. I started off as a physics tutor and gradually worked my way up to the lead mathematics and sciences instructor for the company. I worked with around 20 students a week, mostly in 1 on 1 sessions, but we had a few study groups (5+ students) on Sunday evenings that were a great success.
Growing up I spent most of my free time as a youth in the Boy Scouts of America. In the Boy Scouts we worked as a group teaching younger members how to advance in their ranks as a boy scout. We all gleaned teaching skills and leadership skills while in the scouts. Even after obtaining my Eagle Scout rank I maintained a teaching role for the youth in my troop for a few years before I headed off to college.
- What subjects are you best at?
I can tutor Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra I & II, Physics, and Chemistry.
- What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?
I am currently available for tutoring Sunday through Friday 12 pm to 9 pm. Session times vary from 1 to 2 hours. I prefer to schedule sessions 1 to 2 weeks in advance so that all of my students evolving schedules can be accommodated accordingly.
- Where did you attend school? What degrees do you have?
I attended University of California Riverside and obtained my Bachelor’s of Science in Physics in 2007. I also attended California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and obtained my Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts in 2009.
- What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far can you drive to tutor)?
I can tutor in Corona, Norco, Chino, Chino Hills, Eastvale, Mira Loma, Riverside, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, and Jurupa Valley.
- Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?
I am open to tutoring on Skype. I currently tutor students in Palo Alto via Skype.
- What are your future career goals?
I am working on obtaining my teaching credential starting in winter of 2016. My goal is to teach mathematics and physics at the high school level, perhaps the junior college level if I end up going back to college to get a masters or phd.
- What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?
My hobbies include going to the movies on cinematic adventures, reading sci-fi and fantasy fiction novels, backpacking and cooking. I really enjoy cooking for friends and family.
- What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?
Last year I met with a student 4 weeks before the end of the semester, he was in pre-calculus class with a low D, several missing assignments, and a teacher that he didn’t understand. We studied together for 8 hours a week and by the time he finished the semester he raised his grade to an 89%; achieving a 94% on his final exam.
- What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?
I enjoy when a student is struggling with a concept and then in the middle of the session it just clicks. Their eyes light up and they know exactly how this particular thing works. The satisfaction of helping people understand difficult concepts is just fun for me. Tutoring and teaching academically and in the kitchen have been a passion for me since I can remember.
