The Tutoring Solution’s October 2014 Student of the Month - Nicholas Celella

The Tutoring Solution’s October 2014 Student of the Month – Nicholas Celella

We selected Nicholas Celella as our October Student of the Month. Nicholas receives his tutoring in Eastvale. Nicholas started the 1st grade at Clara Barton Elementary this school year and he has been receiving tutoring for reading and writing with our tutor Gale Frankel since August 2014. Nicholas is an intelligent and highly motivated student; he is truly a pleasure to work with.

Gale has been working with Nicholas for the past three months; she has been helping him with his reading and writing. Thus far, she has seen him make great strides. A large part of why Nicholas has done so well with tutoring is his love of learning. Gale describes Nicholas as a hard working student. She says, “He pays close attention to what is being worked on and he always does his best”. She says that what she loves the most about working with Nicholas is “his enthusiasm for wanting to learn”. Like many of our past students of the month, Nicholas too sees the value of becoming a more knowledgeable individual.

Due to his hard work and desire to keep improving, not only have Nicholas’ grades improved in reading and writing, but, most importantly, his understanding of the subject matter has improved greatly as well. Gale says, “Nicholas is improving in pronouncing words and also being able to blend words”. She went on to say, “Nicholas is turning into a very good reader. It gives me great joy to see how much progress he has made”. Nicholas’ mom, Cathy Celella, added, “Nicholas is doing so well with Gale, she is amazing with him. She makes learning fun for him. He really enjoys his time with her.” Gale and Nicholas seem to be a great match; they both love education and they see everyday as an opportunity to keep growing academically.

Thanks to his enthusiasm for learning, his family’s involvement in his education, and Gale’s guidance, Nicholas is bound to continue making huge strides. We are very excited to see all the wonderful achievements that Nicholas is bound to make this academic year. We are sure that if he continues on the same path, he will achieve all his goals in no time. Thank you Cathy for using our tutoring services and letting us get to meet your very bright boy. Congratulations to Nicholas!

The Tutoring Solution’s September 2014 Student of the Month - Ava Cornell

The Tutoring Solution’s September 2014 Student of the Month – Ava Cornell

We selected Ava Cornell as our September Student of the Month. Ava receives her tutoring in Chino Hills. She started the 4th grade at Gerald F. Litel Elementary this school year and she has been receiving tutoring for math and language arts with our tutor Gale Frankel since early June 2014. Ava is a very bright young lady and, with just a bit of assistance, she has made great strides.

Right from the start Gale and Ava hit it off due to their shared love of learning. When asked what attributes make Ava such a great student to work with, Gale said, “Ava is a hard worker and eager to learn.” Additionally, she added that she enjoys “Ava’s enthusiasm for learning. She’s a delight to work with.” Clearly, not only is Ava intelligent, motivated, and hard working, but she also loves and values the many benefits that come from learning. Because of all these reasons, we decided that Ava would be the perfect choice as our September Student of the Month.

Ava and Gale’s hard work have paid off. With Gale’s help and Ava’s enthusiasm for learning, Gale says, “Ava has a much better understanding of the material being learned.” Gale has seen Ava make great strides in the short time that hey have worked together, which has been extremely rewarding for Gale and Ava. What is more, Ava’s self confidence has really blossomed, which has provided Ava with an essential tool in order to succeed academically.

Gale has really enjoyed her time with Ava thus far, and she says that the best part of working with her is watching Ava’s self confidence grow. We know that if they keep working towards achieving Ava’s academic goals, Ava will continue to blossom and live up to her full potential.

We are excited to see how Ava continues to progress and we hope to be a part of that journey for years to come. Thank you to Andrea for allowing us the opportunity to work with her amazing daughter. Congratulations Ava!

The Tutoring Solution’s July 2014 Student of the Month - James Heinssen

The Tutoring Solution’s July 2014 Student of the Month – James Heinssen

For the month of July our Student of the Month is James Heinssen. James receives his tutoring in Corona. James graduated from Norco High School in the summer of 2014 and he will be starting Norco College in the fall. James has been working with us since September 2012. James has received tutoring in English, Basic Algebra, Statistics, and British Literature, among other subjects. Most recently, James has been working with Stephany to help him with his Math College Placement Test.

Stephany describes James as “a very intelligent and dedicated young man.” She goes on to say, “He always attempts his very best and his grades demonstrate the dedication and effort he puts into his studying.” Although he has a tendency of challenging his tutors and questioning whether or not they are using the most effective method to solve the math problems, his desire to learn and find the best method possible, makes teaching James more enjoyable, because it forces his tutors to analyze the different methods and to learn in the process.

While working with James, Stephany has seen him improve greatly. Many of his tests and quizzes were returned with higher marks than what he was receiving before he started tutoring. Stephany said, “After a few sessions I did notice James’s understanding of the course materials increase. After a few examples, he successfully completed worksheets and homework problems with little help. He was able to remember steps without me having to give him hints”.

His mother, Teri, also saw improvements in James after receiving tutoring from us. She said, “The Tutoring Solution has been the best tutoring my son has received. The tutors are kind, intelligent in their field and very patient. My son has soared because of them. Each one has been fabulous. James is also very smart, but it was the tutoring that put him over the top. It also gave him confidence to do his best. And it showed. He’s an “A”, “B” student and proud of his accomplishments”.

We have been so happy to be able to work with James and Teri these past few years. Both James and Teri have been a pleasure to work with. It is always nice to meet kind people who value education as much as we do. We are excited to have the opportunity to continue working with James into his college years. Congratulations James!

The Tutoring Solution’s June 2014 Student of the Month – Warren Huang

For the month of June our Student of the Month is Warren Huang. Warren is a 6th grade student who receives his tutoring in Chino Hills. He has been working with his tutor Tra-Mi, since early April 2014. Tra-Mi has been helping him improve his writing skills. While working together for the past 4 months, Tra-Mi has seen vast improvements in Warren’s ability to organize his thoughts in a more concise and mature manner.

Tra-Mi really enjoys working with Warren because of his unique personality. When asked what it is like to work with Warren, Tra-Mi said, “I would describe Warren as a very imaginative and enthusiastic student. He has lots of personality and makes sure to show it in his work.” Warren manages to turn an activity, which other students might perceive as being dull, into an opportunity to be creative and to have his unique and fun personality show through his writing.

Not only does Warren learn in the process, but he also makes it enjoyable for himself and his tutor. Tra-Mi added, “Warren doesn’t do the bare minimum when it comes to completing his assignments, he makes sure that when the readers read his essay, they are engaged. When we work on narratives, his stories are always very creative and fun to read. Even when he’s given an assignment where he has to write about factual events, he always makes sure that he adds in some weird and interesting facts so that his essay won’t be “boring”.” Clearly Warren understands the importance of writing and keeping readers engaged.

Tra-Mi has noted vast improvements in Warren’s writing abilities. When asked how Warren has improved, Tra-Mi said, “Warren’s thoughts are more organized, he doesn’t start his sentences with conjunctions, and it’s easier to follow his train of thought in his writing now. He makes outlines before he starts writing and he edits and rewrites when it is necessary.” After working together, Warren has learned how important outlines are in order to help him organize his thoughts and ideas. Thanks to his enthusiasm and Tra-Mi’s guidance, Warren is on his way to becoming an excellent writer.

Warren and his family have been a pleasure to work with. He is a really special student who manages to brighten his tutor’s day with his unique and creative take on pretty much any topic. We look forward to continue working with Warren and seeing him continue to develop his writing skills. Congratulations Warren!

The Tutoring Solution's May 2014 Student of the Month - Mena Mekhaeel

The Tutoring Solution’s May 2014 Student of the Month – Mena Mekhaeel

Our May Student of the Month is Mena Mekhaeel. Mena receives his tutoring in Mira Loma. He is a student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and he has been receiving tutoring with our company since the beginning of February. Mena has been working with his tutor, Laura, to improve his understanding of Pre-Calculus. Throughout their time together, Mena has improved his understanding and confidence in his ability to complete Pre-Calculus assignments. The main reasons for his success are his desire to learn and because he was paired with a tutor with a strong knowledge of the Pre-Calculus and an shared love of learning.

From the moment that Laura first began working with Mena, she said that he was clearly an intelligent young man who posed very thought provoking questions in search of a deeper understanding. Laura was very impressed by his level of intelligence and his enthusiasm for education. Laura said, “Mena is a dedicated student and athlete. He is often tired after swim practice, but he manages to find energy to study and take charge of his learning.”

What is more, Mena is a very special young man, who goes above and beyond to achieve his goals. When asked what it has been like to work with Mena, Laura said, “I really enjoy Mena’s willingness to do extra unassigned work to make sure he understands Pre-Calculus. This gives me the opportunity to watch and make sure he understands the techniques. Mena is also fun to converse with. He is interested in many topics and is funny. I have especially enjoyed talking with Mena about college.” It is clear that both Laura and Mena developed a great relationship and were able to bond over their mutual love of learning.

We have greatly enjoyed working with Mena and his family. They are all extremely kind and they clearly share our love of learning. We look forward to continue working with Mena and seeing him continue to prosper in school and achieve all his academic goals. We know great things await this impressive young man. Congratulations Mena!

The Tutoring Solution's Student: Theresa Valdez

The Tutoring Solution’s Student: Theresa Valdez

We are excited to announce a great accomplishment by one of our students – Theresa Valdez. We first introduced you to Theresa, in September of last year, when she was chosen as our Student of the Month for September 2013. Theresa is an 11th grades student from Centennial High School – one of the many wonderful schools in Corona. She is a very intelligent and highly motivated young woman. She continues to astound us with her determination to keep learning and to set high goals for herself. She loves to try new activities and take on new challenges in order to grow into a well-rounded individual. Because of her hard work, she was able to win the silver medal in the Inland Science and Engineering Fair – “a competition of science projects designed, developed, and displayed by elementary and secondary students from schools in Riverside, Inyo, Mono, and San Bernardino counties”.

Along with two of her friends, Theresa entered the Corona/Norco Unified School District Science Fair, with her project titled, “The California Chaparral”. After impressing the judges and moving on to County Level, on April 2nd, Theresa found out that she had received the silver medal for her project and that she was moving on to the state level. When asked how she felt about Theresa’s accomplishment, her mother Patricia said, “I couldn’t be more proud of her and I appreciate all the work your tutors do to help her stay on track.”

For her science fair entry, Theresa tried to answer the question, “What is the percentage of invasive and nonnative species to native species of vegetation in today’s California Chaparral?”. When asked what she presented and what she did to complete the assignment, Theresa said, “Two friends and I went out hiking to 5 different locations that shared the chaparral climate (dry, warm, in a canyon, grasses) and randomly cataloged the species of plants we saw in given perimeters. From there it was my job to identify these plants and label them as invasive, non-native, or native to the area. This was very exciting for me, for one because I have never advanced past the school level, and also since I have been hiking with the program Trails4All for 3 years (all of my high school career thus far) and I am always eager to expand my knowledge, especially since it falls in line with what I would like to pursue as a career and follow my dream to help conserve our natural resources.”

Theresa is clearly on her way to achieving all her goals. We are immensely proud to be able to work with Theresa and her family. We know we will hear many more wonderful accomplishments from her in the years to come. Congratulations Theresa!

The Tutoring Solution’s November 2013 Student of the Month – Dana Puhl

The Tutoring Solution’s November 2013 Student of the Month – Dana Puhl

Our November Student of the Month is Dana Puhl. Dana is a very intelligent young lady who, like the rest of our Students of the Month, goes above and beyond in order to achieve her academic goals. Dana has been receiving Chemistry tutoring in Corona since September 2013. She has been working with one of our go-to Chemistry tutors, Stephen Mackessy.

We selected Dana as our November Student of the Month because of her great desire to fully understand the subjects being taught in school and her eagerness to learn. When describing Dana, her tutor says, “She’s a bright girl. She can understand concepts fairly quickly and she doesn’t normally struggle with an idea for long.” Stephen went on to say, “She is hard working and motivated. Unlike some students, she definitely shows a willingness to learn the material rather than just going through the motions and being resistant to the subject.” He then added that Dana makes tutoring easy.

Dana and her family are a dream to work with. We are always excited when we get the opportunity to work with other people who value education as much as we do. We know that because of Dana and her family’s strong commitment to education, nothing but great things are in Dana’s future. We look forward to seeing her continue to grow academically and to see her achieve all her goals. Congratulations Dana!
