Dear Friends,

Since founding The Tutoring Solution in October 2010 we’ve worked with more than 400 students.

We have awarded over 20 scholarships and have hired many talented tutors to guide and inspire our young students.

Although we have loved working with so many amazing families, after having our son, Sebastián, we decided to devote more time to our family and Cynthia’s goal of becoming a children’s author/illustrator. (If you would like to see some of Cynthia’s work visit – https://whimsicalstorybooks.com.)

As a result, we are looking to sell The Tutoring Solution.

We want to sell it to someone who is as passionate about education as we were and continue to help students in the Inland Empire with their tutoring needs.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in buying The Tutoring Solution and continue its legacy of helping students reach their academic goals, please contact Zeb Welborn at (909) 973-9089 or at Zeb@welbornmedia.com.

Thank you,

Zeb Welborn

PS – Thank you all for choosing The Tutoring Solution. We are proud of the time we spent educating, inspiring and working with students, teachers and parents in the Inland Empire for the past seven years.

The Eleanor Roosevelt High School Senior Awards Night was on Thursday, May 14, 2015.  We were honored to be able to present our Eleanor Roosevelt High School Share Your Passion Scholarship to three impressive young students.  This year’s Eleanor Roosevelt Scholarship Winners were Martha Rosario, Kyaw Kyaw Aung, and Eui Kyung (Pearl) Rhee.

We were delighted when we received a lot of wonderful entries this year from many inspiring young students. We originally had the intention of selecting one winner; however, after reading all the entries, we knew we had to select our three winners

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 4.45.19 PMMartha Rosario wrote an inspired essay about her desire to improve the environment and make the world a better place for us all. She wrote about how she used to disregard her surroundings and the pollution and litter that surrounded her. However, once she put things in focus and realized that the Earth was her habitat and a place that should be cared for and respected, that’s when she started to see things through a whole new perspective. While she acknowledges that there is not a lot of money to be made with her chosen career; she feels that the satisfaction of knowing she is doing good, will make up for that lower pay.Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 5.15.27 PM

Kyaw Kyaw Aung wrote about his admiration for his dad and his desire to become an engineer like his father. He originally did not fully understand his father’s need to try to fix everything; he felt it was foolish when he could easily call a professional and have them finish the work a lot more quickly. However, he writes about how his impression of his father changed one day when he was able to see what a beneficial asset it could be to know how to fix all kinds of things. He soon began to understand his father’s intrinsic desire to take things into his own hands and figure out how they work.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 4.58.27 PMEui Kyung (Pearl) Rhee wrote about her aspiration to play the flute and create beautiful music for others to enjoy, as well as to become a flute teacher, and/or a music therapist. She took us through the journey of her flute playing. Her passion for the flute was apparent right from the start; she talked about how she spent many hours in her bathroom practicing the flute so as to not disturb the neighbors. Eventually, when she joined the praise team at her church and began playing for individuals with special needs. Initially, she turned a blind eye to them and did not really acknowledge them; however, one day, she decided to pay attention to the audience she was playing for and that is when she saw how much joy her music brought them.

We want to give a huge thank you to these three wonderful and impressive young students, along with the rest of the scholarship participants; they inspire us to continue to devote our time and energy to working to help the youth in our community. We are sure that nothing but wonderful things await these young adults.

Aside from thanking the scholarship participants, we also would like to thank Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Pamela Snow (the Scholarship and Senior Awards Night Coordinator), and Jenna Gutman (School Counselor).  We have nothing but great things to say about them. They dedicate their lives to helping the students in their school succeed and attain all of their goals. Overall, we really appreciate the students, teachers, counselors, and parents at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and we look forward to working with all of you for many years to come.

The Tutoring Solution's Tutor: Ritika Agnihotri

The Tutoring Solution’s Tutor: Ritika Agnihotri

  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

I have been a private tutor for the last 4 years teaching math analysis, AP chemistry, and algebra 2 for students in the Walnut Valley Unified School District. I also assist my mother in her classroom for a combo class in kindergarten and 1st grade, particularly dealing with children with disabilities such as ADHD or autism. Additionally, I have worked as a math tutor, for other companies, with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Lastly, I was a peer tutor at UCI for general chemistry.

  • What subjects are you best at?

I am extremely comfortable teaching math up to calculus which includes basic math principles, algebra, math analysis, pre-calculus, trigonometry, and geometry. I can also teach organic chemistry, chemistry, and biology (physiology, developmental cell biology, neurobiology, ecology, marine biology, and molecular biology) based on my undergraduate education.

  • What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?

Tutor is currently not available.

Tutor’s schedule is subject to change.

  • Where did you attend school? What degrees do you have?

I received a Bachelors of Science from the University of California, Irvine in Biological Sciences with an interest in Neurobiology.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far are you willing to drive to tutor)?

I am available for students within a 15 mile radius from Walnut, CA. That includes Brea, Fullerton, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Covina, West Covina, and Glendora.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

I am very open to the idea of teaching via Skype or Google Video or creating special YouTube videos for the student to cover topics for them to review on their own time schedule. I have previously done this for a student that was home schooled and wanted a whole chapter of algebra to be done via youtube videos for him to review and learn the concepts during a finals week where I was unable to meet him.

  • What are your future career goals?

My future goals are to receive a masters in biotechnology or pharmaceutical sciences that will allow me to work for the research and development contingent of a lab company that works with drug interactions in the brain (hopefully for a drug therapy clinical trial dealing with Alzheimer’s).

  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?

My hobbies include cooking and crafting. I love to sew and tailor old clothing into new and wearable fashions as well as painting and making knickknacks for my friends and families.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

I helped a student in AP chemistry go from a B to getting a 5 on the AP test (the highest score possible on the test). I helped a student in Math Analysis go from failing and repeating the class to receiving an A and getting above 660 on the SAT quantitative reasoning section.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

I enjoy when a student smiles and actually understands the material I teach after struggling to understand it the first time from a school or previous institution. I love seeing the reaction when students realize that the material isn’t as hard or tiresome and actively wants to learn or practice more.

  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

I have been a tutor since 2011. I have worked with various students of different age ranges. When I used to be an after school tutor for Pomona Unified School District, I had my own class of 12, kinder-1st grade students, and I would assist them on homework and then do fun educational activities with them. I have also worked with Elementary-High school students in other tutoring companies.

  • What subjects are you best at?

Within all my years of tutoring, I have tutored students from English (elementary to middle school) to all levels of Science (including AP Biology & Chemistry). However, my main focus as a tutor is Math – basic Math, Algebra, Pre-Algebra, Pre-calculus, and Calculus.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far are you willing to drive to tutor)?

I live in Ontario and go to school in Pomona, so I am willing to tutor within any surrounding cities with a radius of 15 miles from either Ontario or Pomona.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

Unfortunately, I am not able to tutor online.

  • What are your future career goals?

My future career goal is to become a Forensic Scientist for the FBI.

During my spare time I like to go running, work on cars, and play with my dog.

I helped a student pass their CASHEE exam. And I have helped a college student improve their math grade from a D to a B in 4 weeks.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

What I enjoy the most from tutoring is that I am able to help students on the subjects they are having difficulties with. I also enjoy the fact that tutoring allows me to give back to my community, like my teachers from Elementary to High School did when I was younger; they were always willing to help me improve in my weak subjects which, at the time, were actually Math and Science.

The Tutoring Solution's Tutor: Anfal Al-Jidui

The Tutoring Solution’s Tutor: Anfal Al-Jidui

  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

I have two younger siblings (in elementary and middle school), so tutoring and helping them with their projects seems like a part-time job on it’s own! I have also taught AP chemistry, AP biology, and life science at a private school in Pomona.

  • Specialties – What subjects are you best at?

I can teach Biology (up to the college level), English (up to the college level), General and Organic Chemistry (up to AP), Life Science, Math (Algebra I and below), and all elementary school subjects.

  • What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?

I am available any time on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am available on Fridays from morning until 5 PM.

Tutor’s schedule subject to change.

  • What school did you attend or are attending?  What degrees do you have?

I attended and received my bachelors of science in biology from the University of California Riverside. I am taking some pre-requisite classes at Loma Linda University and I have applied for dental school.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far are you willing to drive to tutor)?

I can tutor in Corona, Eastvale, and Norco.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

Yes.

  • What are your future career goals?

I am planning on becoming a dentist.

  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?

I absolutely love baking; I run my own personal baking blog! I’m very outgoing and love hiking, biking, traveling, and going out and exploring new things with my friends.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

I’m very patient and want my students to have a very good understanding of the material they are studying. I want to provide them with all the tips and tricks I’ve personally picked up along the way in my own studies. I never want a student to feel intimidated by any subject material, and I will work with them until they are completely confident. I loved it when my previous students would say that I explained things really well, because I teach in a way that I wish I was taught in school (with constant reinforcement of material, and never letting anyone get left behind on a topic because they are too shy to ask for further help).

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

I love when students leave a tutoring session or classroom smiling, and are confident in themselves because of what I have taught them. That moment when they are watching me teach and I can see that it “clicked” in their minds is one that is priceless.

The Tutoring Solution's Tutor: Nicole Margarit

The Tutoring Solution’s Tutor: Nicole Margarit

  • What is your experience as a tutor or teacher?

I have been a tutor for 5 years. When I was seventeen I tutored three children who ranged from the ages of 10-15. I tutored them in math and writing. Once I started school at University of California, San Diego I began tutoring my peers. I was a teaching assistant for cellular biology and a personal tutor in cellular biology and human physiology for four UCSD post-baccalaureate students. These students ranged from the ages of 19-27. I am very passionate about teaching. I enjoy breaking each problem or concept down step-by-step with my students. I feel this is the best way a student is able to fully understand a subject and makes it easy for the student to stop me whenever they have a question or need further clarification.

  • What subjects are you best at?

Mathematics: Ranging from Pre-k to Calculus

English: Language Arts and Writing

Science: AP and Regular Biology, Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, Physiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Endocrinology, Physiology of Exercise, Recombinant Techniques, General Physics, and General Chemistry

History: Up to AP US History

  • What is your schedule like? What days and times are you available to tutor?

I am free every day of the week at any hour and Sundays (if needed).

Tutor’s schedule subject to change.

  • Where did you attend school? What degrees do you have?

I acquired my bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego. I attended high school at Santiago High School in Corona, California.

  • What cities can you tutor in (i.e. how far are you willing to drive to tutor)?

Corona, Norco, Eastvale, Ontario, Chino Hills, Riverside , and Anaheim Hills.

  • Are you open to tutoring students via Skype or another online platform?

If need be!

  • What are your future career goals?

I am hoping to become a pediatrician.

  • What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy reading, traveling, exercising, playing board games, and watching movies with friends and family.

  • What accomplishments have you achieved while working as a tutor/teacher?

My greatest accomplishment was helping a post-baccalaureate student go from an F on a cellular biology midterm, which she had received previous to having a tutor, to an A on the final. The teacher agreed that if she was able to get an A on the final, he would give her an A in the class.

  • What do you enjoy the most about tutoring/teaching?

I really enjoy getting to know the students I tutor. It is also amazing to watch the student progress in the subject they are being tutored in. There is no greater feeling than the satisfaction I get when I am able to help a student understand a concept or subject and I would love to be able to continue helping students!
